Ministries and Groups Extraordinary of the Eucharist Sacristans Religious Choir Ushers Altar Servers Lectors and Commentators Ministry of the Sick Altar Servers English | Spanish Ministry of Altar Servers Our altar servers help priests and deacons throughout the mass. Due to them being of help to the priest, they must be attentive and at reach when needed. They are meant to dress presentable, usually in a white alb along with robes indicating the color of the ordinary time we are in. An acolyte's purpose consists of accompanying the priest at the beginning and end of mass with candles and the cross. They also help with the holding of the sacramentary when needed and during the time of the Eucharist. At the time of Communion, the acolytes are there to provide the water for the cleansing of hands, and at times assist the Father with fixing the altar for the blessing of the bread and wine. The role of an altar server can be deferred and usually consists of a team effort. A calendar is present to the right that shows starting dates and ending dates to this special momentum for us all in the Catholic Community. In a Livestream shared by the Vatican, we can see and hear his declaration towards the public regarding the events that will take place, he also announced that the biggest aspect of this jubilee is hope . "Spes non confundit. Hope does not disappoint", proclaiming the Jubilee he assured us with these words from the Bull of Indiction that hope must remain. The Jubilee is known to happen once every 25 years; since this is occurring soon, its an important subject we are going to continuously share so that our community and nearby communities learn more about why this is celebrated. Confirmation Deuteronomy 4:29 - “From there you will seek the Lord your God, and you will find him if you search with all your heart and soul.” Confirmation The Confirmation is the third sacrament in our Catholic faith and is the encounter with the Holy Spirit. The United States Catholic Catechism for Adults states that Jesus' entire mission occurred in communion with the Spirit and that before his death he made a promise that the Spirit would be given to his apostles and the entire church. That being said, it is known that our journey of faith should consist of a time when we receive the Holy Spirit, this being our confirmation. Our Confirmation is the giving of ourselves to be of service to the church and to be guided by the Holy Spirit by confirming our faith. Below is what's required for this sacrament. Confirmation Requirements The following are necessary in order to receive this Sacrament: The youth attending confirmation classes must be ages 14-17 or grades 9 through 11 You need a baptism certificate and a first communion certificate at the time of sign-up. Once the candidate is signed up for confirmation, the following is asked of the parents and their child/children: Teens must attend mass every Sunday and Holy Days of Obligation. Please put your envelope in the collection basket, when you come to Mass, with your name on it. Complete 20 hours of Community service Go to confession at least once a month and receive communion often Research the life of a Saint and write a report. Learn the assigned prayers and attend a retreat Be sure to do any assignments, and be on time for classes, and if you are absent for more than 3 classes you will be dismissed from the program. Catholic sponsor must be [practicing their faith) turn in the form of the sponsor as soon as possible. The sponsor must attend the retreat when a date is announced. With their help, the mass is being prayed with instruments and joyfully being sung. They rehearse and learn all choral music specifically for our church and all communities that need a religious choir. Not only do we enjoy the rhythms and the tunes, but we also become a collective of worship for the church, a place we call home. Anointing of the Sick Luke 4:18 - “The Spirit of the Lord is upon me, because he has anointed me to proclaim good news to the poor. He has sent me to proclaim liberty to the captives and recovering of sight to the blind, to set at liberty those who are oppressed, Anointing of the sick The anointing of the sick consists of a moment where the anointing oils and the prayers of the Father lead to the divine presence of Jesus Christ in hopes of healing them. Whether the illness is in plain sight or not visible, the priest takes measures to bless the body of those who call upon healing. There is no need for the person to be at a point of death for them to receive the sacrament. However, the person may not receive physical healing if at a point of death, though, spiritually they have been removed from all sin and filled with peace. That being said when a father is called to pray for the person in need of his blessing, we ask certain questions to the responsible person calling in this misfortune of event. We ask of the person: Can the person in need of the sacrament talk? If so, confession is required. In the matter that they can’t speak, the father will take different measures with the confession aspect. Can the person eat or drink? If so, by request of the sick, the Father will proceed to deliver the sacrament of the bread and the blood of Christ. If the sick cannot do any of the above, a different procedure will be performed. If the sick are not able to perform any of these, the Father will go ahead and bless them with a prayer, holy oil, and his divine presence. If the person that's ill can communicate, be sure to get their permission before calling our office to obtain this sacrament.
